2124. Bell, H. P. Feb. 3. Generators or producers.-In a plant for the manufacture of producer gas, three producers are connected by pipes provided with v a l v e s which can be so operated that, while the direction of flow of the gas remains the same, the points at which air is admitted and gas drawn off can be varied, so that each producer may be first, second, or third of the series. Air and steam enter at A and pass through the series to the right ; or the centre producer may be the first, the gases passing to the outlet G by the pipes D, E, F, A, B ; or, starting with the last producer F, A, B, C, D represents the order of passage. The heated gas may be used for generation of steam and heating the air supply, and the movement of the valves made reversible so that the above three stages succeed in the reverse order. No special valve or producer is employed, and fuel is preferably introduced into the second producer at any stage.
