The air passes into a tube g, and the water passes through a duct p controlled by a needle valve o<1>, and t h r o u g h an absorbent washer q and a vertical duct i to the pipe g, where it mixes with the air as a spray and is carried through a pipe y<1> to a vapour-distributor z. The apparatus is formed as a casting secured to the ceiling of a mill - room. The quantities of air and water are controlled by shut-off cocks mounted on stems s<1> which carry a sprocket-wheel t. The cocks are actuated by a chain passing over this wheel. The needle valve regulating the water supply has a threaded stem working in a tubular support, and is actuated by a chain and a sprocket-wheel w on the stem. The filters comprise body portions and strips j<1> on which wire gauze k is secured. They are screwed into the cylinders and may be removed by a hook engaging recesses m. The distributor z comprises a tubular plugged lower portion z' forming a receptacle for surplus water and having an enlarged cylindrical head provided with a bevel face z<4>, on which the spray falls, and a screwed collar z<5>, which engages the pipe y<1> and has an integral slotted flange z<6> made fast to the cylindrical head.
