Abstract

8734. Tissot, J. April 22,1907, [date applied for under Section 91 of Patents &c. Act, 1907]. Respirators.-In breathing - a p p a - ratus for enabling a person to remain in a deleterious atmosphere, the a l k a l i-containing appliance for absorbing carbon dioxide from the exhaled air is made with several compartments c o n - nected by flanged tubes and furnished with directing plates and partitions, an escape valve is used for automatically keeping down the pressure in the gas-bag, and the face piece is furnished with inhaling and exhaling valves of particular construction. Fig. 2 shows a section of the storage bag and regenerator. The gas-bag A is protected by a box B, and is connected by tubes T<3>, V with the regenerator F, which contains material, such as potash solution, for absorbing carbon dioxide. The air current is guided, and splashing of the liquid from one compartment to another is prevented, by flanged pipes L, 0 and baffles K, N, Q, R The bottom of each compartment is provided with longitudinal and transverse partitions 50, 51. Should the gas bag A become unduly distended, it presses back the piece A<1>, Fig. 4, and the parts f, e withdraw a spring- held slide from the top of the escape pipe Y. The face piece, Fig. 7, comprises two cylindrical boxes 20, 22 respectively containing flap valves 21, 23 for the exhaled and inhaled air. The nozzles 9 may be flexibly connected to the pipes 7 by rubber tubes 8. An extension 13 and drip cock 14 are provided for the removal of moisture.
