Abstract

7730. British Thomson-Houston Co., [General Electric Co.]. April 7. Telephone systems.-A high-frequency induction alternator is used as a telephonic relay, the line currents being led through the fixed field coils, and the increased electric energy being taken from the fixed armature windings. The receiving- arrangement in the armature circuit may be a liquid detector, as used in wireless telegraphy, shunted by a telephone and battery. The field coil C of the generator is surrounded by blocks B of radially-placed magnetic laminations, the magnetic circuit being completed through laminations D which are arranged in planes at right-angles to the planes of the laminations B, and the laminated pole-pieces H of the rotating high-speed inductor G. The armature windings F are arranged in slots cut in the blocks of laminations D. The laminations D are arranged in tangential planes in order that the flux produced by the high-frequency currents in the armature windings may close itself independently of the main magnetic circuit. The laminated pole-pieces H of the inductor may be separated by non-magnetic pieces I to increase the strength of the inductor and reduce windage losses.
