Abstract

18,255. Parsons, C. A., and Stoney, G. G. Aug. 23. Coupling dynamos ; field magnets. -Continuous - current machines having series windings compensating for armature reaction can be connected in parallel if an equalizing wire or wires is used to cross-connect part of the compensating-windings. The connections described are suitable for the machines mentioned in Specifications No. 12,408, A.D. 1903, No. 4784, A.D. 1900, and No. 7665, A.D. 1902. Two dynamos, shown in parallel in Fig. 1, have shunt field coils b, b, compensating-coils d, d, and compounding-coils g, g. The equalizing-wire e connects points on the compensating-coils. Fig. 2 shows reverse compounding - coils h, h connected between the compensating-coils d, d and the forward compounding-coils g, g. The equalizing-wire e is connected to, or near, the point where the reverse turns h, h are joined to the ordinary turns g, g. A modification is described in which the coils h, h and coils d, d are transposed and the equalizing wire is attached either at the junctions of the compensating-coils, and the forward compounding-coils or at points in the compensating- coils ; in another modification, the compensating and reverse compounding-coils in each machine are combined to form one equivalent coil. Fig. 7 shows the connections for a machine as described in Specification No. 4784, A.D. 1900, which has a series winding d and a shunt winding b, the position for the equalizing-wire being shown at e. Fig. 8, shows the wire e connected between the two series coils, dividing them so that one part of each compensates for armature reaction while the other gives the desired compounding.
