Abstract

7637. Feesey, A. E. April 7. Self-driving motors.-The self-driving motor is worked by steam generated by the heat of compression of air, and is utilized to drive an aircompressing and water-supplying plant to maintain a continuous supply of power. Compressed air from a suitable reservoir is admitted through an inlet valve A to drive the piston downwards. On the return stroke, the air is compressed further, and water is sprayed through the nozzle E at the end of the stroke. The water is converted into steam by the heat of compression, and forces the piston downwards by its expansion. The products are exhausted on the fourth stroke through a valve C. The crankshaft drives a suitable aircompressor for supplying the reservoir, and also a suitable pump for maintaining the water supply to the engine.
