Abstract

5709. Fawcett, Preston, &. Co., and Dinsdale, H. March 14. Atmospheric vapour burners; vaporizing-apparatus.-An atmospheric burner for steam generators &c. consists of a main group of perforated tubes a, Figs. 1 and 4, and, adjacent to them, a pilot burner j, above which aro placed the principal part f of the main vaporizer and a smaller auxiliary vaporizer m for use in connexion with the pilot burner in starting the main burner. The improvement consists in applying to the sides of the burner j imperforate plates w, which touch the vaporizer f and exclude air from the pilot flame. In the construction shown in plan in Fig. 1, -perforated burner tubes a project horizontally from mixing-chambers c adjacent to the double vapoursupply nozzle e. The oil for the main burner passes from a pipe i through coils h at the sides of the burner, and thence to the larger central coil f, and issues as vapour from the nozzle e. The pilot burner is in the middle of and slightly lower than the group of tubes a, and is supplied with vapour by a pipe m, which passes into the main vaporizer f, as shown, and thence through a chamber dividing the mixing-chambers c, to a nozzle adjacent to 'an air inlet q, Fig. 4, beneath the burner j, the upper surface of which is channelled and perforated as shown.
