Abstract
5173. Fletcher, J. March 7. Sliding valves.-In sluice valves having devices for forcing the valve disks against the seatings in the closed position, mechanism is provided to prevent the wedging-device from operating before the valve disks have arrived at the position to close. Two swivel members D, D<1>, Figs. 2 and 3, are suspended from a yoke C, which is formed integral with the wedging-members C<8>, C<9>, and moves relatively to the valve disks at the commencement of opening and during the wedging action at the completion of the closing movement. The backs of the valve disks are formed with wedging-inclines corresponding to those on the yoke. The feet d<2>, d<3> of the swivel members, as shown in Fig. 3, are adapted in conjunction with inclined members b<8> and the guides or slides F formed on the valve casing to prevent any relative movement between the valve disks and the wedging-members before the valve arrives at the stops a5, a<6>, when, simultaneously, the feet d<2>, d<3> reach the bottom of the guides F. In this position, shown in Fig. 2, the feet d<2>, d<3> move outwards to free themselves from the parts b<8> when the yoke C and the wedging- members integral therewith move downwards to effect the wedging action of the valve disks on their seatings.
