Abstract
4777. Cross, H. March 3. Composition fuel; wood fuel. - Fire - lighters are made of wood chippings, sawdust, shavings, or coal dust, mixed with an inflammable binding- material, such as resin, pitch, tar, paraffin, or creosote oil, and moulded to a hollow open-ended conical or pyramidal form. Fig. 1 shows a truncated conical form having side perforations 4, and a serrated edge 3 ; the perforations may take the form of long slits. To strengthenthe sides of the fire-lighters, they may be moulded upon a wooden or wire frame-work. The interior of the fire-lighter may be filled with shavings secured by wire or by an inflammable binder. The fire-lighter may be coated, after formation, with inflammable material, such as creosote oil. The empty fire-lighters may be nested for storing. According to the Provisional Specification, the firelighters may be made in hollow cylindrical or box form, and may be closed at one end ; or they may be of conical or pyramidal form closed at the smaller end.
