Tyres, pneumatic; spring wheels.-Metallic protective sheaths fitted to pneumatic tyres when deflated and held closely by inflation only are formed, as shown in Fig. 3, with a flattened central part a and curved sides a<2> diverging from the tyre. The exterior is formed with a groove a' holding a soft non-skid band consisting of a felt band b, Fig. 4, a metal band c, transverse leather strips d, and a leather band e secured to the metal band c by headed studs. The leather strips may be connected by means of slotted plates f, Fig. 2, which engage pins on plates d' secured to them and are tightened by a turn-buckle g.
