Tyres, pneumatic &c. ; wheels with two or more tyres side by side.-Wheels for motor and other road vehicles are fitted with running surfaces of different degrees of elasticity, such as pneumatic and solid elastic tyres, arranged side by side to prevent skidding. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the wooden felloes a are connected by transverse bars b on which are mounted rims c fitted with a pneumatic tyre l and solid tyres f, g which protect the pneumatic tyre from undue strain and also tend to prevent skidding. In a modification, a solid tyre is fitted between two pneumatic tyres. In the form shown in Fig. 3, solid and pneumatic tyres f, l respectively are fitted on a single stepped felloe a. In another form, shown in Fig. 5, the multiple rim k is formed in one piece ; the arrangement of the tyres may be reversed. The tyre cover may be made in two sections m, n, Figs. 7 and 8, with a metal ring o fitted between them ; the tread is secured by the inwardly-bent edges of the rim, and as shown in Fig. 8 the part n may be separately retained.
