Abstract
2389. Moffat, H. Feb. 3. [Cognate Application No. 4211, A.D. 1908, dated Feb. 25.] Lift valves; pressure-regulating valves; actuating valves.- In a diaphragm-operated steam or other pressure - regulating valve, the India - rubber diaphragm 6, Fig. 2, is provided with a protective backing formed of a series of bronze diaphragms or disks 7 of varying diameters having their edges bent over so as to engage in succession under increasing pressure with the cambered interior of the lower cover 8<a>. The end of the spindle abuts upon a lever of the third order supported at its free end by means of a knifeedge on the head of a bolt supported by an adjustable spiral spring. In a modification, when the valve is large, it is fitted with a pilot valve 2<c>, Fig. 3, seated on the top of the hollow main valve. The pressure on the top of the valve is relieved through apertures 2<1>, and the main valve is raised by a collar 2d mounted on a spindle. These valves may be adapted to act as surplus valves, or as controlling-valves for pumps.
