5584. Stumpf, J. March 6. Double - b e a t valves.-A doublebeat valve for steam - engines, compressors, &c. is arranged so that the closing force produced by a spring and the unbalanced s t e a m pressure on an annular area produces the s a m e pressure per unit area on both the seats. The valve member a contacts with one rigid seat b and with one resilient seat c formed on a ring d bellied outwardly and subjected internally to steam pressure. This ring is so proportioned that the lower seat is pressed upward with the force necessary to produce the desired distribution of pressures between the valve seats. Specification 16,442/10 is referred to.
