Axle-caps.-An axle-cap for lubricating and securing the wheels of colliery trams &c. comprises a casting a having a screwed portion b engaging the boss c of the wheel, and secured by a screw e. A groove l is formed on the axle g to receive a flange made in two parts, one part d being cast on the cap a, and the other part f being loosely inserted and secured to two lugs n on the cap by screws m. An oil-hole h is closed by a spring- pressed plug j. In a modification, the flange consists of two loose parts which are jammed against the face of the wheel by an annular projection on the cap. Holes are made in the two parts of the flange to allow free access of the oil to the bearings.
