Compound fabrics.-A puncture preventing band for pneumatic tyres consists of a strip of asbestos cloth attached by solution and pressure, with the interposition of a strip of canvas, to vulcanized fibre, or to a composition of paper, wood, or vegetable pulp, raw cotton, &c. and rubber, guttapercha, &c. The asbestos cloth is then covered with linen or canvas. The vulcanized fibre may be pressed into the shape of the tyre. The number and arrangement of layers may be varied.
