Easel stands; tripod stands.-A collapsible rest for books and other articles comprises a long supporting-rod a preferably made in two parts connected by a bayonet-joint so that the lower part can be removed and the device used on a table, to which three rods d, e, f are slidably connected by a runner c. To the lower ends of the rods d, f, clamps g or spring clips g<1> are attached by eyes h for securing the device to the arms of a chair. Temporary extensions may be fitted to these rods to enable them to rest on the ground. The rod e passes through a runner k<1> pivoted to a rod_k, attached at the ends to the rods d, f by pairs of runners pivoted together. The book &c. rests on a wooden ledge l, supported centrally by a plate k<3> sliding on the rod e, and at the ends by rods n, the upper ends of which are attached to a runner on the rod e, while the: lower ends rest against the rod k. The book &c. is held in position by a projection q<1> mounted on a sliding collar q. The runners are preferably secured in position by forming them with bell-mouthed ends engaged by india-rubber or other rings; but setscrew pins adapted to engage with holes in the rods or spring clips may be fitted to the runners for this purpose, An electric-light attachment may also be fitted.
