Screw propellers. -The propellers of aircraft are adjusted in pitch in accordance with the variations in air resistance at different altitudes by wormactuated mechanism. Fig. 4 shews one form in which the blades are adjusted by bevelgearing e, worm gearing h, and a weel i engaged by one or other of fingers k on a spring-controlled slide m actuated .by the aviator or automatically by means responsive to the air pressure. The bevel-gearing e may be replaced by cranks and connecting-rods and screwar.d-nut gearing.
