Abstract

Planes, construction of; steering, balancing, and regulating altitude. - The span of the plane is made variable by the provision of sectors b2, which are rotatable on pivots d and pass freely in and out of the double surface of the planes a. Cranks c, which are cast in one piece with the apex of the sectors, are connected by wires f to a lever e so that the sectors may be extended or retracted simultaneously. The lever may be controlled by a ratchet or toothed quadrant device. In the case of multiplane machine, the sectors of all the planes may be connected to one central leverage.
