Hoists.-In a hoist for charging blast furnaces, the carriage runs on a track upon the upper side of a framework, and the skip is carried by a jib which is automatically rotated to bring the skip over the furnace mouth. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the jib i carrying the suspended skip n is mounted on a crab k travelling on inclined rails m. At the upper end of the run, the jib is rotated to bring the skip over the furnace mouth by means of a rack o fixed to the track engaging a spur-wheel connected to the jib. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 3, the jib runs on a third rail p curved in such a manner that the desired swinging movement is effected. The movement of the jib may also be effected by an electromotor carried by, and serving also to drive the carriage.
