Abstract

20,409. Hearson, T. A., [Bleichert & Co., A.]. Sept. 22. Rope railways.-Consists of a rope-way for raising dump heaps, capable of extension as the dump heap rises. Fig. 3 shows an elevation and Fig. 4 a crosssection at the dumping point. The rope-way is mounted in an inclined bridge or frame resting on the slope of the dump heap, and so constructed that, on the heap becoming too high to allow of further dumping, an extension can be added to, and supported by, the bridge, to raise the dumping point. Within the frame are carried rails on which run trolleys connected to an endless rope, and carrying tip-buckets. The upper sheave a and the curved rail segment g above it are mounted in a frame carried on rails d, so that, when a new section has been added to the bridge, the sheave a is readily shifted into its new position. The direction or inclination of the bridge is altered at any point by the insertion of an angle-piece and guide-sheaves. The buckets are held in their loaded positions by means of catch-levers l, which, on the buckets reaching the dumping point, are disengaged by contact with a projection k.
