Guided skip and hopper hoists. - Apparatus f o r charging cupola furnaces consists of a bucket suspended from the end of an arm - rigidly attached to a traveller which runs on an inclined double track diverging near the charging - opening of the furnace in such a manner that the bucket is caused, near the end of its travel, to move nearly horizontally and to be guided laterally into the furnace. The traveller b runs with one wheel f bearing on the underside of the track c and its other wheel g on the top of the track d. The tracks c, d are parallel up to a short distance from the top, near which they diverge. As the traveller approaches the top of the track, the arm h assumes an almost horizontal position, and the free end of the arm carrying the bucket i moves along the path shown by the dotted line k. The bucket i may be suspended from the arm by a hook as shown, or the end of the arm may be forked and pivotally connected to the bucket.
