Stoppers.-Non-alcoholic beer &c. is prepared by pasteurizing unfermented wort in bottles provided with special stoppers which allow the subsequent impregnation with carbon dioxide with complete exclusion of unsterilized air. The stoppers comprise a shell b held against the bottle neck by a ring d, and fitted with a rotary plug c having vertical passages k, l. One of these passages connects, in one position of the plug, with a tube m which passes vertically through the bottle, and the other with an opening in the shell b. The plug c is rotated either by a key provided with pins inserted into holes in the upper surface of the plug or by a gas union n which is connected to the plug by a bayonet-joint and is fitted with key pins arranged so that the union can only be disconnected when the plug is in such a position that the passages k, l are closed.
