Abstract
15,235. Pomortzeff, M. July 2. Uppers ; soles; sole protectors.-Boots and shoes are made of a fabric, such as cotton or linen, rendered waterproof by some suitable treatment, such as that described in Specification No. 15,518, A.D. 1905, [Abridgment Class Waterproof &c. fabrics]. The cut-out material is stretched to shape while in a moist state, and then dried in a warm place. The sole, which may be of the same fabric as the upper, or of leather, or of cotton machine-belting, is stretched while damp on a wooden temp'et, the edges of the material being turned upwards so as to embrace the templet. When dry, the sole is removed from the templet, and the space between the turned-up edges filled with suitable filling-material. The sole when sewn to the upper is covered externally by a layer of caoutchouc mixed with finely powdered aluminium, or by celluloid or like material, and may be strengthened by a series of metal plates screwed or riveted to the sole as shown. The plate may be arranged in a single layer as shown in Fig. 3, or in a double layer as shown in Fig. 4, and a thin sheet of brass or aluminium is placed between the plates and the sole. A single corrugated metal plate may also be used.
