Incandescent lamps.-Filaments are supported by cross pieces resiliently connected to the lamp stem or bulb, to allow for differences of expansion in the branches. In the lamp shown in Fig. 1, parallel filaments 7 are attached to the ends of pieces 6, each mounted upon a lateral extension of a spring 5 projecting from a central stem 3 ; the springs 5 may, however, be carried by the bulb. T- pieces 8, Fig. 3, may replace the cross-pieces 6, and the radial limbs of the T-pieces may then serve as torsion springs. Several T-pieces may be connected together, or to a glass bead 9, Fig. 5, and may be supported by a spring 5 on the stem or bulb. In a modification, the filament passes round a semicircular piece resiliently supported in the middle. The supports are made of conducting- material when they connect the ends of straight filaments, but of non-conducting material in the case of loop filaments.
