Circular knitting-machines.-Irregular diagonal plated patterns are made on the French type of machine, by means of warp threads w, which are carried by a number of guides f attached to plates f<1>, f<2> which form one or more concentric series and work loosely in slotted rings c<1>, c<2>. These rings rest on vertical plungers d', which slide in blocks e<1> and are carried round by means of a ring b, at the same speed as the needles. The lifting movement of the guides f to lay the warp threads w on the needles is obtained from fixed inclines over which runs a roller g<1> at the lower end of a bracket g. The lateral movement of the guides f, which enables the threads w to be laid over the needles, is obtained from horizontal cams l<1>, l<2> which are rocked by a ratchet o and driver q operated by a fixed stud. The movement is conveyed to the guides by fixed arms i<1>, which are attached to the blocks e<1> and carry studs bearing on the cams l<1>, l<2>. If the warp patterns are required to cross and recross, the rings c<1>, c<2> are rendered capable of simultaneous movement in opposite directions, by arranging the platea f<1>, f<2> in separate tiers, one above or behind the other.
