Abstract

8752. Jones, H. Sefton-, [McIntosh, A. A.]. April 15. Boat-disengaging gear.-A releasing- hook for boatlowering gear comprises a shank 1, to the thickened end 2 of which is pivoted an arm 3 formed with an enlargement 16, which serves to close the mouth of the hook. A latch 10 pivoted between a pair of links 5 has a rounded head 8 formed with an irregular opening 9 to receive the correspondingly-shaped end of the arm 3, which, in the closed position, lies above the line joining the pivots of the links 5 and latch 10, as shown in Fig. 2, a tooth 14 on the latch engaging a recess 15 in the arm 3. On raising the latch 10 by a cord 11, the end of the arm 3 is depressed below the line of dead-centre, and the weight on the hook causes the arm to snap open. The movement of the links 5 is limited by shoulders 6 on the shank 1. The shank is recessed at the part 7 to receive the head 8 of the latch 10. Fig.1 shows an arrangement of cords and levers 34, 37 for releasing two hooks simultaneously.
