Abstract

1432. Feron, A. Jan. 20, 1906, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Distributing.-Relates to a device whereby an electric tramcar or like vehicle is enabled to traverse portions of the track where no current is available, and consists in arranging on the shaft of the ordinary driving-electromotor an explosion engine, and a dynamo working either as generator or motor, and connected to a buffer battery of accumulators. The Figure shows the electric connexions. On the shaft 3 of the explosion engine are mounted the main electromotor 1 in connexion with the outside supply, and a dynamo 2 in connexion with the buffer battery 4. When the outside current fails, gas is admitted to the cylinders of the explosion engine, which then propels the vehicle. If the power of the explosion engine or of the electromotor is insufficient to maintain the normal speed, it is aided by current from the battery working the dynamo 2 as a motor. When going downhill, the vehicle is braked by the dynamo 2 which supplies current to the battery. When the vehicle is being driven by the main electromotor, it is assisted on an upward gradient by the explosion engine, which is brought into action automatically on a reduction of speed.
