Abstract

28,563. Bracy, E. L Dec. 14. Parcelling cigarettes. - Packets of cigarettes &c., for example those produced in the machines described in Specifications No. 6819, A.D. 1902, and No. 9531, A.D. 1904, are automatically inserted into the trays or drawers of boxes of the drawer-andshell type. When the packets e, Fig.1, are discharged from the packeting-machine, they fall upon an endless travelling belt a, which carries them along a guideway d, and delivers them to another endless travelling belt f set at an angle to the belt a. The guideway d is so shaped that the packets e make a partial revolution while traversing it, as shown in Fig 1. The belt f delivers each of the packets upon one of the plain portions of an intermittently-rotating horizontal table i having recesses j, into which the box-trays are inserted by mechanism not forming part of this invention. The packet resting on the table i is pushed over a box-tray, lying in one of the, recesses j, by a pivoted cam-actuated lever k, Fig. 4. A camactuated plunger then descends vertically and pushes the packet into the box-tray. Spring-hinged pieces q prevent the packet from falling into the box-tray before the plunger descends. A piece u projecting from the lever k prevents packets from being fed to the table i, except when the lever k is in its proper position to receive them. The motion of the table i brings the packets opposite an ordinary discharging-mechanism, which forces the packets from the recesses j into box-shells. A turntable for altering the direction of motion of the packets may be arranged between the belts a, f.' '
