Abstract
111,132. Blackledge, J. Nov. 7, 1916. Shoots.-Apparatus for dividing a travelling series or stream of articles, such as dough pieces used in the manufacture of bread, into two or more streams automatically, consists essentially of a hopper A, in which is pivoted below its centre of gravity an inclined oscillating plate D, which when the article falls on it, directs the article in a certain direction but is itself turned on its pivots by the weight of that article so as to be inclined in the opposite direction, whereby, when the next article arrives, it is directed to the opposite side and the plate is returned to its original position. In the example shown, the dough piece F is brought by a conveyer F, and falls into the hopper, from which it is directed down the shoot B to another conveyer G. The next piece of dough is directed by the plate D, which is now in the position indicated by dotted lines, to the shoot C and falls on to the conveyer H. The shoots may be omitted. If it is desired to divide the stream into more than two streams, the device can be duplicated at the bottom of either or both shoots.
