Abstract

26,006. Ashton, O. Nov. 16. Movable abutment type with outwardly-sliding abutments. A piston c, Figs. 1 and 2, mounted upon a central shaft b, rotates within a cylindrical casing a. A combustion chamber d communicates with the working chamber. An outwardly-sliding abutment p, working in grooves m in the sides of the casing, makes contact with the piston c. The piston rotates counter-clockwise. In the position shown in Fig. 2, the piston has moved a doublearmed lever f, g pivoted at e, so as to open the inlet valve h, thereby admitting explosive gas to the combustion chamber. On further rotation, the abutment p drops on to the hub of the piston, Fig. 1, and the lever f is disengaged. The valve h then closes, and by means of a sparking-plug k the charge is ignited, thus rotating the piston. When the position shown in Fig. 2 is again reached, the exhaust passes away through a valve r, and the above cycle of operations is repeated. A multi-cylindered engine may be used.
