24,965. Hanwell, H. W., and Beard, E. A. Nov. 6. Carburetting.-In a carburettor suitable for feeding an internal-c o m b u stion engine or for other purposes, the air after being carburetted passes to a pump which sends most of it to a gasholder and the remainder through a by-pass to spray the liquid fuel, the pressure in the pump being materially greater than in the gas-holder. Fig. 1 is a general view of the apparatus showing a double-acting pump A with outlet pipe E<2> and inlet pipe C', each of these pipes communicating with both ends of the pump. By means of bypasses G, part of the charge expelled from the pump passes to an annular nozzle D<2> surrounding the fuel nozzle D<1> and sprays it, air entering through holes D'. Check valves C<2> are placed in the branches of the inlet pipe, and ball valves G<2> are used to control the by-passes. Ball valves E<1>, Fig. 3, are placed in the branches of the outlet pipe, and effect partial throttling of the discharged gases.
