Spring wheels ; tyres, elastic other than pneumatic. - A wire cable 1 fitted in a leather sleeve 2 or other flexible tread band is fitted with metal shoes 3 and is supported by means of metal (or rubber) springs 4, 13, which are put in initial compression, as shown in Fig. 7, for assembling the tread, and are maintained in compression. The springs may be guided by telescopic tubes 5, 6 or by means of yokes 10, 14. In either case, the members 6,10,14 engage between adjacent shoes 3 to prevent creeping of the tread band, and these members are further provided with lateral lugs 16 to prevent rolling of the tread. The springs may be compressed in the manner shown in Fig. 7, or screw bolts may be entered in tapped recesses 9 in the members 6, 10, 14 and drawn inwards by nuts bearing on the rim.
