Primary batteries.-In cells of the dry LeclanchÚ type, the carbon electrode consists of a central carbon conductor a surrounded by rods b outside which the depolarizer is packed. Vertical passages c are thus formed in the electrode ; the central carbon only extends part way down, so that a space is left inside the electrode which allows for the accumulation of gas and liquid.
