Abstract
10,717. Duxbury, T. May 8. Moulding fuel, bricks, tiles, &c.-From a single charge of material in the mould, a plurality of fire-lighters, briquettes, bricks, or tiles are produced as parts of an indented slab from which they can be easily broken, or as parts of indented strips formed in a divided mould. In making the slab, the upper plunger 12 is formed with two series of indentation-producing projections at right-angles to one another. In formiog the strips, partition plates 16 are fitted in grooves 8<11>, 9" in the casings 8, 9 forming the sides of the mould ,and the plunger 12 besides having projections 12<1> is deeply recessed, as in also the bottom-plate 6, to fit over the plates 16. The plate 6 is raised and lowered by the cam 3, acting on a roller 4 and frame 7, a bulge on this cam serving to raise the plate and produce an extra pressure after the plate with the charge from the box 18 has been lowered from its highest to its lowest position in the mould. The plungers &c. may be steam-heated, and to prevent strain springs 14<1> are interposed on the rods 14 connecting the plunger 12 to its actuating crank-plates.
