[Class 18] [Also in Group V] The stacked laminations F which are to be moulded into box form, are placed on a core b, and a pressing plate o, carried by a hydraulic ram p, descends to rest on and compress the bottom of the box. As the ram continues to descend, and whilst lost motion is being taken up between the plate o and the ram, a tapered frame j suspended from the ram plate n by pistons l and coacting with the four tapered mould sides c<1> ... c<4>, urges the mould sides inwardly to press the sides of the box against the core b. On further descent of the ram, the latter presses down the plate o to complete the compression of the box bottom, the pistons l being displaced within their cylinders m. The ram and the frame then rise, the plates c<1> ... c<4> being prevented from rising by the engagement of their bases with projections q on the mould base a. The laminations may be cut as shown in Fig. 5, the sides h<1> ... h4 being rhombs having triangular portions h<1>1 which overlap on to the adjacent side. All the laminations are of this shape, but adjacent laminal have their rhombs facing different ways, with the result that the meeting edges do not occur at the corners, which are formed of overlapping rhombs.
