Abstract

6341. Potter, E. March 16. Fire-guards.-The front of a fire-guard is made adjustable in width so as to fit any fire-place, and the sides are hinged to the front so that the guard may be folded on one side of the fire-place. In the arrangement shown, the right wing 5 is hinged to clamps 1 detachably secured to the fire-place, and also to the front 17, which is of adjustable lattice-work and is provided with a telescopic top bar 9. The left wing is attached to clamps 2 by means of hooks 13. To keep the guard in a rectangular position, the joints 8, 12 of the wings with the front are provided with stops, as shown in Fig. 3. When the guard is not in use, the left wing is folded behind the front, which is telescoped and folded back on the right wing.
