Abstract
5883. Rockwell, E. D. March 11, 1905, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Electric traction on the overhead - conductor system. Collectors.-To enable the trolly wheel to swivel round and adapt itself to. the direction of the overhead conductor, the axle 3, Fig. 5, of the wheel has flattened ends 4 engaging blocks 6, Fig. 4, which slide in recesses 8 formed in the cheeks of the trolly harp. The outer faces of the blocks are cylindrical to permit the swivelling, and between the blocks and the wheel are placed flat springs formed of tongued disks 29, Fig. 12, or of a pair of disks 15, Fig. 9, riveted together. The blocks 6 are retained in the recesses by the arms 18, pivoted at 19 and united by a cross-yoke 20, which is notched as shown to engage a spring bolt 22 which retains the arms in position. The bolt has.a finger-piece 26 attached, grooved to slide on a feather 28 on the trolly head. To maintain electric connexion between the bearing-blocks and the cheeks of the trolly head, bearing-plates 13 are fitted in the guideways. In a modification, one of the bearing-blocks may be formed on the end of the shaft 3.
