Brush-holders.-The body portion of a brushholder is formed from a single stamping A, Fig. 1, of sheet metal, bent into the shape shown in Fig. 2, in which the brush F is held between the wings a and tongue a', and the spring-pressed finger D together with the spring E is mounted on a spindle supported by the lugs a<1>, the strip A<1> being formed into a loop B for attachment to the brush spindle. The free ends of the wings a, which enclose the brush F, Fig. 5, are riveted together or to a metal block f. The spring- pressed finger D, Fig. 7, formed from a separate stamping, passes through the opening a<3>, Fig. 1. in the strip A', and the tension of the spring E is adjusted by varying the position of the end e<1> in the notched edge a<2> of the curved portion of the strip A'. In a modification, Fig. 9, in which the pressure finger D is resilient, the end of the finger remote from the brush F bears upon the strip A<1>, and the pressure of the finger on the brush is adjusted by means of a nut b and screw-threaded bolt b<x>. The underside of the nut b may be provided with a projection to engage with a corresponding notch in the finger D to prevent the finger from working loose.
