Abstract
4817. Reuter, W. Feb. 27. Cranes.-Relates to the arrangement of the operator's platform upon travelling cranes, such as those employed for manipulatiug ladles when casting chills. Fig. 1 shows one arrangement in which the main hoisting-gear carriage runs upon the gantry, while the carriages of the auxiliary gear and of the operator's platform run upon a track inside the gantry and common to them both. The operator's carriage may be coupled with one of the gear carriages so as to travel with it. When casting chills, the operator's carriage is moved into position by the auxiliary gear, which is then uncoupled and moved into a position in which it would not hinder the operator. In other arrangements, the operator's carriage runs upon separate rails so that the three carriages are enabled to pass one another. The operator's carriage may be provided with separate actuating-mechanism or connected to that of one of the hoisting-carriages by an endless rope.
