Abstract
3883. Arnodin, F. J. Feb. 16. Bridges; girders.-Suspended girders are constructed so that the uprights alone are struts, all the other members being ties. Fig. 7 shows such a girder; the upper member is interrupted at the centre of the span, and the lower member at the ends. The girder may be curved upwards or downwards, and the two trusses may be inclined, as shown in Fig. 13, the central point F being on or below the line A b ; or the inner ends of the trusses may be connected by an ordinary girder above the lower member, as shown in Fig. 11, or below the same. Specification No. 10,760, A.D. 1885, is referred to.
