Abstract

26,546. Richardson, R. Dec. 20. Valves and valve-gear.-Relates to an improve ment on the combined fluid-actuated and mechanical gear described in Specification No. 21,505, A.D. 1904, in which shock is minimized by forcing the exhaust steam from the auxiliary cylinders past the auxiliary pistons. The main valve has pistons a, b and extensions d, e, on which slide the actuating- pistons f f. Faced projections s and blocks i, i' make steam-tight joints with the pistons a, b, f<1>, f when in contact. Steam is distributed to the auxiliary cylinders from the inlet through ports o', o in the main valve by the tappet-actuated auxiliary spindle-valve j, which is provided with ports k, l, m, n. The exhaust is forced past pistons f<1>, f to the outlet. In the modified valve shown in Fig. 2, the central valve j is provided with conical seats which register with the internal sleeve d<1>, e<1>. The part b of the piston valve is screwed on to the distance-pin c, made in one with the other piston a.
