Abstract

Elastic-fluid turbines.-Relates to radial and parallel flow turbines provided with pressure-transforming chambers and pressure-equalizing arrangements An outward-now turbine has a wheel 4, Fig. 1, with rings of blades 5. The wheel and casing are annularly ridged to form chambers 9 for transforming pressure into kinetic energy on the nozzle side of the blades and receiving chambers 10 on the outlet side. The central inlet chambers 6 are connected to the receiving-chambers by valved pipes 12 so that an additional steam supply can be admitted to any chamber or an additional outlet can be opened leading to subsequent chambers. The pressure on both sides of the wheel is balanced by means of apertures formed in the wheel. A modification is formed as a duplex parallel - flow turbine. A modified outward-flow turbine has two sets of wheel blades with one set of intermediates in each stage. Another modification has two sets of guide blades 18, Fig. 9, and two sets of wheel blades 5 per stage, and at the periphery of the wheel a final set of enlarged blades 51 is arranged. In the machines shown in Figs. 1 and 9, the flow is wholly outwards, the tendency being thus to rid the apparatus of moisture in the steam.
