22,286. Earp, W., and Peberdy & Earp. Nov.1. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Heels.-Reittes to means for carrying a heel into position in a heel-compressor or other machine which operates on the heel before it is attached to the boot or shoe. The feed-wheel J of the machine is fitted with an arm A, which is adapted to receive on its face a series of interchangeable slotted plates C, Fig. 3, held in place by screw studs. The heel is gripped by rigid fingers B, which pass through the arm A and the slots in the plate C, and are surrounded by springs H, preferably of pyramidal shape. These are located between washers K and milled nuts I. The slots in the plate C allow the fingers B to accommodate heels of various shapes, while by changing the plate C the apparatus can deal with heels of any size. Instead of the rigid arm A, a spring-jointed arm may be used.
