Abstract

22,121. Magnetz³nder-Ges. Unterberg & Cie. Feb. 28, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Gas and like engines, igniting io. Relies to improvements upon the actuating - devices for magneto ignition apparatus described in Specification No. 28,157, A.D. 1904, in which a quick movement of the armature is obtained at all speeds by the use of a spring coupling, consisting of two disks a, c, Fig. 1, connected by a spring d. The disk a is fixed to the armature shaft b, while. the disk c is loosely mounted thereon and is driven from a suitable source. One construction is shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3. At a low speed of the engine, pins f arranged in slots a' in the disk a strike against a fixed projection i, whereby the rotation of the disk a is stopped relatively to the disk c until a depression k formed in the latter registers with a pin f. The pin then moves into the depression k, clearing the projection i and allowing the disk c to spring forward through the limit of motion given by a pin l on a disk a which moves in a slot m in the disk c. At an increased speed of the engine, annular weights f<1> mounted on the pins f carry the latter by centrifugal force out of reach of the projection i, so that the coupling then works as a united whole. In the construction shown in Fig. 4, the pin f and the attached weights f<1> are replaced by balls f<0>, which act in the same manner.
