Abstract

21,586. Shepherd, T. Oct. 24. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Saddle supports; saddles.-In the type of cycle saddle support wherein the saddle is carried by a jointed parallelogram controlled by adjustable springs, as shown in Fig. 1, a tube A received by tne seatpillar tube of the frame carries a bifurcated part B, to the limbs of which are pivoted at H, I a pair of bell-crank levers C and two levers D respectively, the forward ends of these levers on the two sides being jointed to a bridge-piece M connected by adjustable springs E to the short arms of the levers C. The wires of the saddle underframing are clamped by grooved serrated washers and nuts P to the sides of the bridge-piece. The rear end of each spring is reduced and screw-threaded to receive an adjusting-pin K. In a modification stated to be particularly suitable for motor-cycles, a part B, Fig. 3, carries pairs of levers C, D connected at their rearmost extremities by L-pieces M, on the forward ends of which the saddle is clamped at Q. The bolt N may pass across to the other piece M, while the adjusting-pin K passes through the lower bolt 0. A bolt engages the eyeleted head of a pin screwed into the spring, or it may engage a loop at the end of the spring. Fig. 4 shows another arrangement wherein a plunger U compressing a spring X is screwed into an eye a connected at b to links S pivoted at T upon the levers D, the saddle being clamped to a tube L carried by the bridge-piece M., According to the Provisional Specification, (1) the side plates or wires of the saddle underframing are made narrowest where they are bolted to the bridge-piece M, (2) the seat top itself may be secured to the bridgepiece, (3) a stop in the form of a plate faced with leather is provided to limit the motion of the saddle, or screws may be fixed to the bridge-piece to engage the lever or to the levers to engage the arms of the piece B, and (4) to apply the mechanism to a saddle only, a clip with faced bosses to take the place of the arms of the piece B is fitted over the existing seat-pillar tube.
