22,116. Okell, J., [Lewis, J. H.]. Sept. 27. Saddles for bicycles &c. The saddle is constructed of two pivoted parts which rise and fall with the movements of the rider's legs. Two plates I are hinged at the rear upon a transverse rod H<1> carried by a frame H, D", C, and connected at the front by rods L and ball-and-socket joints L', M' to the ends of a pivoted lever J. The plates I are recessed to carry pads, as shown in Fig. 7. A shaped plate N, having a central aperture with serrated edges 0, is padded and provided with a covering held in position by laces engaging the serrations O. A plate Q placed beneath the cushion presses on a spring R inserted between the pad and the plate I. The plate N is connected to the plate I by bolts &c. The saddle is connected to the L-pin A, B by a clamp consisting of an eye-bolt D, fixed to the L-pin by a set-screw E, and carrying a shaped block D', washer G, and nut F, between which the curved slotted arm C of the frame is clamped. The tilt of the saddle is adjusted by sliding the curved arm through the clamp.
