Abstract

18,746. Mills, B. J. B., [Balland & Co.]. Sept. 16. Right to Patent relinquished. Stretching and tentering.-Relates to endlesschain apparatus, on to which fabrics, such as lace, tulle, &c., are drawn for dressing purposes. The fabric which is provided with the usual thick threads at the selvedges, is slipped, in the ordinary way, between the two pairs of guides b, Fig. 2, and fastened on to the endless chain a, so that the thick thread automatically passes to the outside of the guides as the fabric is drawn along. The endless chains are made flexible in the horizontal plane, and are caused to open out from one another as shown, to complete the stretching. The curved parts of the guides b may be replaced by two pairs of rotating disks c, Fig. 4, the members of each pair making a small angle with one another, as shown, and the thick thread being prevented, as before, from passing between them. A brake and variably-driven drawing-rollers c serve for adjusting the tension on the fabric. The latter may be stretched, before it is wound on the roller g, by means of guides such as b.
