Cleansing-compositions; soaps.-Soaps and other detergent compositions in a solid condition are manufactured containing carbon tetrachloride either alone or together with benzine, naphtha, &c. The carbon tetrachloride &c. may be mixed with fatty acids and a suitable solution of caustic alkali or alkaline carbonate added. When fixed oils or fats are used, they are first saponified and the carbon tetrachloride is mixed in at the lowest temperature consistent with the soap mass remaining fluid. In the manufacture of hard soap by the cold process, the carbon tetrachloride &c. is mixed with the liquid oils or fats, alkaline lye added, and the whole thoroughly mixed and allowed to stand. Solid detergents are mixed with soap containing tetrachloride with or without the addition of solvents and carbonated soda.
