Abstract
23,546. Macpherson, R., and Heys, W. E: Nov. 16. Soaps.-A detergent for use with hard or salt waters is produced from coco-nut oil or the oils of fatty acids which may be extracted therefrom, a proteid matter and alkali. with the aid of heat, the temperature being such that amido-fatty acids are formed from the proteid by the action of the lye, as is indicated by the evolution of ammonia, coconut oil cake, coco-nut meal and other nut, cereal or seed meal, e.g. oatmeal, bean-meal, and maize-germ cake, are mentioned as suitable proteid matters. Farina or other filler may be added. The alkali is in excess of that ordinarily used, in order to provide for the saponification of the amido-fatty acids. A soft soap may be obtained by the use of potash. The ordinary soap is preferably granulated potash. The ordinary soap is preferably granulated and reduced to powder. The product may be applied to washing or cleansing textile materials, paint, woodwork, &c.
