Abstract
14,628. Johns, H. July 15. Padlocks; latches; catches, gravity.-Relates to a fastening for gates which can be easily operated by horsemen. The fastening consists of the pivot part f<2>, passing through the head of the gate, and the cranked parts f<1>, f<3> connected therewith and forming the latch-piece and handle respectively. The latch part f<1> is adapted to engage with a reversed hook on the gate-post. The handle f is formed as shown in Fig. 1, or may be simply cranked as shown in Fig. 4. By pulling the handle f the latch is disengaged, and continued pulling opens the gate. The U-shaped parts f<5>, f<7> of the handle render it easy for the gate to be opened by means of the riding crop or whip. A loop f<9> is provided on the handle adapted to engage with the staple S and be locked by a padlock.
